About Me

Welcome to Raising Arrows!
My name is Amy and I am so glad you’ve stopped by.  This blog really is an extension of me.  Who you see here is who I really am.  This page is about what you will find here at Raising Arrows.  So, please, come on in.  Sit down, get comfy, and let’s talk!  You are also welcome to email me at amy@raisingarrows.net
What this blog is about:
Parenting a large family – What life is really like raising all these arrows.  How do we schedule our day?  What do family meals look like?  Specific answers to the general question: How do we do it?
Christian conservationism -We’re frugal, we’re green, but with a twist…our ecology stems from our theology.  We share our favorite frugal tips and tricks, our natural parenting style, and our conservation-minded approach on everything from diapers for baby to feeding our family.
Homeschooling - Our personal experiences with the ins and outs of this educational privilege.  You’ll find resources, schedules, and organizational tips from a family who has been in the trenches for 7 years.
Grief Support – These pages contain a unique and candid look into the life of a grieving mother.  On February 10 of 2008, we lost our 5th child, Emily.  You’ll read not only of raw emotion, but of the hope we have in Christ.  It is our prayer that what you read here will uplift and encourage.
About the name Raising Arrows:
Psalm 127: 3-5 says,
“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,

The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
         They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

The Lord views children as an important part of the family unit.  They are called a “reward” and a “heritage.”  It is our duty as parents to recognize the privilege of raising children whom God has blessed with unique gifts, talents and personalities.  No two quivers (families) are exactly alike just as no two arrows are fashioned the same.  Raising Arrows is all about keeping in mind the fact that as Christians, we are raising unique individuals who will someday be let loose to fly with precision and accuracy at the target set before them by the Lord.  We shape and sand selflessly with that thought in mind.

Where do you as a reader fit in at Raising Arrows?

This blog is a dialogue…not a monologue.  This is a place where we can learn from each other.  It won’t take you long to see this blog is full of interaction.  I am not an island and I thoroughly enjoy reading the comments left here by others who are willing to engage in the conversation and offer their own insights and opinions.

I do expect everyone to play nice and weigh their words against God’s Word before responding here.  However, I do not expect cookie-cutter Christianity and I highly encourage those with differing opinions to be brave and join in!

That said, my main passion here at Raising Arrows is that you would walk away provoked to thought, edified, and refreshed.  I pray your time spent here is blessed!

Well, I have seen you bouncing around on several of my friend's blogs and decided to come for a visit. I love what I see. We must be "Birds of a Feather," in that we are Kingdom Arrows, using the same verse for our blog:) I have been blogging since 2008 and am real life friends with Raising Olives and Olive Plants!

I like the “Christian conservationist” idea. I’m growing to despise the words “green” and “sustainability” because they are so politicized.

You are an inspiration! In this day in age homemakers are put down or not understood. Trusting in the Lord with the amount of children and saying no to birth control is said to be unwise. My husband and I decided that we are going to trust the Lord with the money he has given us meaning he works and I stay at home… and when asked how many children we want we simply reply as many as the Lord will give us .. How refeshing it is to find a brave and strong Provebers 31 women!!!
