In my post, A Bit of Autumn for My Emmy, I showed the first of the wreaths we are having made for Emily’s grave. The day after Thanksgiving we went back to the flower shop and had this one made for the winter season…

It is difficult to see in the picture, but the wreath is pine boughs with pinecones and some sprigs that have crystals on them that look like ice. A garland of red crystals wraps around the entire wreath and hangs from the red ribbon at the top of the wreath. It is gorgeous.
You might also notice that the grass is STILL green! Although, with our recent snow, I’m not sure this will be the case the next time we are there.
Another thing I wanted to share was a picture of what has become our favorite flower to put on her grave. (you can see them in the lower right of the previous picture)

It is called statis. It was used in some of the flower arrangements from Emily’s funeral and we noticed that it held its purple color for a VERY long time. In fact, I have yet to see the color fully fade from these lovely flowers. Usually, this flower is used as a filler, but the flower shop knows when we come in, we want a bunch of statis with a purple ribbon wrapped around them.
I have noticed that many grieving families choose to remember their children (especially their daughters) with the color purple. It seems perfect to me. As a Christian family, we are heirs with Christ…we are royalty and purple is the color of royalty. My daughter now resides with the King. Purple is the color that reminds me of this.
Hi there Amy~The wreath is beautiful! Purple is a great color….your blog is purple too.I pray all is well with you and your family~Merry Christmas,Georgiann
This is beautiful and so very fitting. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed Christmas
We have statis in our garden – and it is STILL holding its color. It’s persistent and tough – yet fragile and beautiful, which embodies everything Emily was. It’s the perfect choice.
Lovely, thanks for sharing. You and family are in my thoughts and prayers during this Christmas season. Have a blessed Christmas!
