I am preoccupied.
I’ll explain more on Wednesday for Wednesday’s Walk (so stay tuned!), but suffice it to say that when I am preoccupied I get very little accomplished other than being preoccupied! I sit and think and think and think. I begin to shut everything else out but my preoccupation. It is very difficult to snap out the trance preoccupation seems to put me under.
Quite possibly a better word for what I call “preoccupation” would be worry, care, or anxiety. Hmmmm….now what does the Bible say about those sorts of things??? A LOT!
Matthew 6:25-34:
€œTherefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
Which of you by worrying can add one cubit
to his stature?
So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the
field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, €˜What shall we eat?€™ or €˜What shall we drink?€™
or €˜What shall we wear?€™
For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your
heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
And what am I to do with my anxieties?
I Peter 5:7:
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
I used to liken worrying to rocking in a rocking chair…
It never goes anywhere,
but it sure seems soothing.
Something about trying to take matters into our own human hands seems soothing. I control things because I believe no one else will.
But the truth is the things I am preoccupied with are not beyond His control. He cares for me and will not let me fall. I’m not doing myself any favors by sitting here and stewing about things. In fact, my doing this suggests I don’t truly believe it is God Who holds the future. And that, my friends, is wrong no matter how you slice it.
So, this is me letting it go, giving it to God, and resting easy. Ahhhhhh….much better.

Hello Loved your post. I deal with that issue constantly. I’ve been chronicaling it on my site. It’s the difference of being busy and a busy body… between being occupied and being PREoccupied. We are to occupy until the Lord comes but when we are PREoccupied that normally means we are worrying, overthinking things, and not living for today. 🙂 Emma http://www.strongquiver.blogspot.com thanks for the prayers I’m now following your blog :)))
