Worldview Resource ~ Truth Chronicles from Adventures in Odyssey

Worldview is everything.

You either have a Biblical one or you don’t. I want my children to have a Biblical worldview, but for someone who has had to claw her way out of a deeply-engrained secular worldview, I’m always on the lookout for good worldview resources to help me teach my children how being a Christian affects every aspect of their lives.

Our family takes a lot of road trips and for years now has thoroughly enjoyed the Jonathan Park CDs. In a recent discussion with some other homeschool moms, I learned of a radio drama from Adventures in Odyssey entitled The Truth Chronicles that parallels The Truth Project, an adult Bible Study on gaining a Biblical perspective.

I decided to purchase a copy and let me just say, “WOW!” Good stuff! (You can actually listen to the first episode by clicking HERE and then clicking on the link on that page that invites you to listen to the episode “Here Am I”!)

These cd’s are full of meaty information, but it is presented in a way that even very young children can grasp the concepts. There are a few inferences I’ve had to explain (I won’t give these away because they really are quite clever and worth chewing on a bit), but for the most part, my 11 year old and 8 year old have easily understood the importance of having a Biblical worldview as opposed to a secular/humanist worldview. We’ve also enjoyed many lively discussions pertaining to the subjects presented in this audio series.
The Truth Chronicles has my hearty approval!

    Hi Amy,

I have a question about the Odyssey set. As a family, we try to limit our exposure to the Odyssey episodes because we feel that they often accept sibling rivelry without addressing the fact that this should not be the norm in a family where each member is striving to please the Lord. (We listen on Saterday but not on weekdays, we don’t own any CD’s.) However, your review is tempting me! What do you think?

This is a great question and one I ended up talking over w/ my husband tonight.

You are right…there is sibling rivalry in some of the Odyssey cd’s and there is one episode in this particular set that contains it as well. The rivalry I have seen has never been outright condemned, but I also don’t think it’s ever been condoned. The sister who causes much of the trouble in the episode is very obviously in the wrong and she is “found out” in the end.

I wouldn’t say I see this treated as a “norm”, but I could see how a family would choose to avoid something like this altogether.

Our family does a lot of talking about what we hear and these cd’s are only listened to in the van where we can hear them right along w/ the children. As I said in my review, we’ve had some very good discussions surrounding the topics from these cd’s, but they are just a “tool” and in no way, shape, or form the only way to teach worldview.

This may not be something your family should invest in…I would not want you to be sorry you purchased them.

    Hope that helps you!
    Blessings,
    Amy

    Amy,
I just found your site through Lynette Kraft’s site. I am on a search to learn more about this Family Intergrated Living concept. I love it! I am having fun looking through your blog. I have printed off some of your recipes. Yum! I found that maybe all Amys love Dr Pepper. Yum again! I just wanted to comment on this post because we love the Odyssey Truth Chronicles. We also love their Heroes of the Bible set. My husband and I just went to the homeschool convention last weekend and purchased the entire Jonathan Park set! I am so excited. The kids are loving it!!! It was at this convention that I heard Dr. Voddie Baucham speak and my eyes were opened to family discipleship and FIL. so exciting!!!
