Weekly Wrap Up – Out With The Old, In With The New

Monday: Mondays tend to be busy around here.  I really hate leaving the house too often, so I put as much into this one day as I can.  In the morning, we had a slow start, but got our homeschooling accomplished in time to head to piano lessons, then to pick up raw milk, then to Boy Scouts for my oldest son.

Our school day even included 2 Science experiments from Apologia General Science, mulberry picking, sun tea making, and some much needed redecorating in the girls’ room.

Micah helped too!

Tuesday: School seemed to drag on today for various reasons.  Meg didn’t get finished, so I hope to get her back on track tomorrow.  However, we got a ton of household to-do’s taken care of!  Later, we took the kids out for BBQ and a few errands.

Wednesday: School was accomplished mostly without my help.  Remember, I said I was changing OBs again?  For those of you who don’t know the entire story, you can read about the initial change due to my OB of 10 years no longer doing obstetric care.  After that post, I found a doctor, but I never felt quite right about things.  Then, I kept hearing not-so-encouraging things about her bedside manner and her attitude toward VBAC.  It really unnerved me.

Now, I am not one to switch OBs mid-stream.  I don’t rock the boat if I don’t have good reason to, but there was this niggling in the back of my mind until finally I had to say something to my husband about my misgivings.  A friend had given me another doctor’s name and my husband was more than willing to check into it.

Well, today was the big day!  My mom came up and my kiddos did all their chores and schoolwork under her guidance while Ty and I went to the new OB appointment.  We didn’t actually meet the OB (saw her in passing), but we did meet the P.A. who just happened to be the same P.A. who used to work in my old beloved OBs office!!!

We talked and talked and talked.  It was like coming home.  She asked us about Emily’s condition and subsequent death, we talked about spiritual matters, she told us the doctor’s views on our desire to VBAC (incredibly positive!), and a whole host of other things.  I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful the whole experience was. Much better than how I left my first appointment with the OB I was seeing.

The issue over the size of my babies did come up, and due to that fact, I am going to start on a more guarded diet.  I’ve never had Gestational Diabetes, but I am hypoglycemic and I could stand to eat healthier, so that’s what I’m going to do.  If you hear me whining on here, just remember it’s the soda-deprivation talking.

I came home and read the bigs their Logic, Worldview, and some more in Across Five Aprils.  I’m hoping to have that book finished up soon.  It has been their least favorite of the Sonlight 3+4 books.  We also made the mulberries into jelly using this recipe.  Of course, I had to make bread to go along with the jelly!  Sciatica really acted up due to me being on my feet in the kitchen too long.

Thursday: Whew!  Long, exhausting day.  (Sensing a theme here?  The whole week turned out to be exhausting!) We drove out to witness a land auction of some ground that had been in the family for 50 years.  We ate lunch with family and visited some and then headed home to regroup for half a millisecond before heading to our garden spot to eat with friends and pull weeds.  Everyone was gross and sweaty by the end of the day.  Showers feels so good when they are much needed!

Friday plans to be yet another big day.  We’ll visit cemeteries and stop off at the lake to mow and tidy up a bit there.  I plan on getting statis for Emmy’s grave.

The weekend will be full as well!  We are going to visit our friends who used to live in their garage with 10 children.  We’ll be guests in the garage that is now an apartment for visitors!  We’ll also be attending our old home church!  Everyone is so excited!

Hope this pregnant mama can keep up!

Oh, and one of the biggest announcements of the week was the fact that Micah graduated into a toddler bed and out of his high chair! The trappings of babyhood are quickly dissolving into little manhood.  It is so much fun to watch him become his own person.  He has begun adding a hearty “AMEN” to the end of family prayers, and he is quick to try anything and everything the rest of the gang is doing.  Every family needs a toddler!

So, there you have my whirlwind week!  There won’t be any Half My Stuff Saturday this week due to the fact that it is nearly impossible to declutter when you aren’t home! ;)

  1. I’m glad you found a OB so quickly~
I think seeing the gal you knew from before was a sign from GOD!

I love the picture of the kids around the mulberry tree! What a cool tricycle!

Sounds like a fun and busy week!
    Good luck with the diet:)

With my last 3 kiddos (all almost 11#)
I had to take the 3 hour diabetic test and the answer was no…I did not have it.
I did watch what I ate and still had BIG babies. I grow BIG platter sized placentas….the reason the diet never helped! I pray it will help with you though,
as I know the bodies agony of carrying such a BIG baby!

    Peace and LOve,
    Georgiann

    • Thanks so much, Georgiann! Big babies are hereditary here, but I’m still hopeful I can keep babies weight down just a wee bit.

  2. Dear Amy,

  3. I was wondering what “sun tea” was too!

I too have had the same OB for forever, and feel like we have a connection. I’m glad that you found such a positive ob! It really makes a different to find someone that you connect with.

I love reading your blog – it makes my “busy” week seem completely serene!

    Have a great weekend!

    • LOL – I figured everyone knew what sun tea was! Guess I should have been more specific!

I told my husband this morning I just wanted to stay home. He told me I could just cancel everything, but then I’d have twice as much to do the next day, so no thank you…just keep swimming, swimming, swimming… :)

  4. I see that you use Apologia General Science, I’m thinking of using it next year. How do you like it?
And yes, every family needs a toddler! They’re so fun!

    • We’ve just started the General Science book, but we love all Apologia material, so I don’t anticipate this being any different. However, I am having to drink a soda right now in order to accommodate a science experiment…the things I do in the name of homeschooling. ;)

  5. Love your weekly wrap-up my friend! You had a busy, but blessed week. That’s great news about your ob. Continuing to pray for you!

(and when are you coming to MN to fish? the low sugar foods will be ready!)
