I Didn’t Make a Single Diaper for this Baby

Ever since I started cloth diapering I have been fanatical about making newborn diapers for each baby.  Even when baby didn’t really need new ones, there I was cutting and sewing away in the wee hours of the morning for weeks on end.

But not this time.

I took a look at my newborn stash and realized I had plenty.  I’m not sure if this is a sign I’m growing older or a sign that my family is growing bigger and things like sewing have taken a backburner, or just what my reasoning is, but nevertheless, I didn’t make any.

The photo above is of my first ever changing table (courtesy of my mom’s garage sale prowess…$15 bucks folks!) stocked full of diapers.  The top shelf is for the new baby.  The bottom shelf is Micah’s.  As you can see, I really do have PLENTY!

In addition to all that, I have a nice full closet of baby things along with 2 drawers in the dresser next to the changing table.  Last baby I was lacking in the clothes department, this baby could literally wear a different outfit every day for 2 months!

I am realizing there are things that were once an important part of my life that have ceased to be so integral as time and seasons change. For me, sewing seems to be on the list, as well as scrapbooking.  Neither one do I find as therapeutic as I once did.  Sewing means hiding myself away from my family in a remote part of the house and scrapbooking means nearly 3 years of pictures looming over my head, whereas once upon a time, I was all caught up.  Neither one top my list of things to do.

I’m not planning on selling off my diaper fabric stash, nor do I plan on burning all my pictures, but I do intend to let go of the guilt.  I’m going to give myself permission to teach my daughters to sew without feeling obligated to finish my own projects first.   I’m going to buy photo albums and get those pictures in there where my family can enjoy them. I’m going to realize I’m in a new season of life…one heavily encrusted with homeschooling and the raising of little ones.

OK, now for a little bit of fun…

Perhaps you are wondering just what IS in my diaper stash since I decided not to make any more:

10 newborn prefolds
30 newborn/small fitteds
13 newborn/small covers
10 FuzziBunz pocket diapers
Lots of wipes
(most of which need to be replaced…this would actually make a great, easy project for the girls!)

And a new favorite of mine!  Simply Soothing Diaper Cream!

I got a sample of this from Renee at HardLotion.com and was amazed at the results!  Micah had a horrible diaper rash and this cream not only adhered to the sores, but healed him up in less than 24 hours!  I’ve used coconut oil alone for years, but it’s never had the results this did!  I’ve also watched my cloth diapers closely with this cream and so far, I see no adverse effects from the cream on the absorbency of the dipes the way you would with your usual store-purchased creams.  I’m running low of my sample size, so I better hurry up and grab up a regular sized tin!

So, what’s in your diaper stash?  If you’ve got a link to pictures on your blog, please share!  I just LOVE fluff!

  1. I would probably be embarrassed to show all the cloth diapers we have :) But, at least I have variety lol

I know for most making wipes is super easy but I love the Ragababe cloth wipes. Their the easiest I’ve used.

My cloth diaper blog is http://allaboutclothdiapers.com I’ll make it my next post in a few days to do stash pics. Thanks for the inspiration ;)

  2. It is funny how life’s seasons change things. maybe it’s perspective maybe its lack of time to worry, maybe it’s just that with each new baby the blessings come:)

  3. Thanks for sharing!! I’ve been back and forth with cloth diapering. You do have quite a nice stash and it’s won’t be long and you will be using them. :)

I’ve been encouraged by this post!

  4. Isn’t it fun to see how our priorities shift as life changes? I, too, do not seem to have time or motivation to sew or scrapbook anymore. When my first 3 were little, I made about 1/2 their clothes and loved it. Also, I was caught up on all scrapbooking. Now, since the little 2 have joined us, time is too valuable to do either of those activities – I just do not get any satisfaction or relaxation I once did from them. I am always busy homeschooling, church, sports or just enjoying the kids. Our lives are very blessed, but also very full!

  5. Aw, what a great review for me, Amy :) I’ll mail you a little package for the new baby, with more diaper cream of course :)

It’s funny that as I read through your blog, scrapbooking came to mind before I even got to that part of your blog. I’m just grateful for the little video feature of digital cameras, and sons who love putting together movies… it’s easier to let the guilt go since the scrapbooks ended when my twins were born.

Can’t wait to see pics of your cute little newborn in the puffy ‘lil diapers! Hang in there!

  6. Wow, what a stash. You definitely don’t need to feel guilty!!! My newborn stash is 19 Kissaluvs size 0. And a handful of prowrap covers.

Can’t wait to hear the news of a new precious little one.

You are so right that wipes are a great project for the kids.

  7. I have no newborn diapers, but quite a few small and medium diapers. Sewing my own has been on the “to-do” list for the past year…..since a month or so before the last baby was born.
Mine consist of Bumkins, but I just discovered the FuzziBunz pocket diapers and I am in love with them.

Digital scrapbooking saved my sanity and no more guilt. Doesn’t even have to be done chronologically. I use My Memories Suite and it is so easy.

  8. What fun! And what a great stash you have! My NB stash (ready and waiting for our Dec. baby) consists of 2 dozen( I think, maybe a few more) NB prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers and now (thanks to a gracious husband) 13 NB workhorse diapers from GMD! These are my FAVORITE diapers! Easy to wash, quick dry, 100% cotton, great fitting fluff bliss! :) I also have about 8 NB covers of various kinds and lots of wipes.
I think I may have to try out the diaper rash stuff you listed, I have been looking for something I really can use with our fluff!
Praying for you as you wait this last days to meet baby! Excited for you!
