Bundled In Prayer

Garin's new B.I.P. afghan

I “met” Christina of Bundled in Prayer online many years ago.  We became fast friends with much in common.  When Emily died, I became the recipient of a beautiful memorial afghan lovingly made and prayed over by Christina.  I spent many many hours curled up under the softness of that afghan, where I could literally feel Christina’s prayers wrapped around me.  That afghan continues to bring me comfort.

When I had Micah, Christina made me another afghan.  Micah’s afghan used the remaining bits of yarn from Emily’s afghan interwoven with his own blue and white yarn…a fitting tribute to my precious deceased daughter and her new little brother.

After so much sadness, I wanted Garin’s afghan to be something whimsical and cheery.  I’ve been loving the blues and limes of little boy’s clothes these days, so I asked if Christina could do something in those colors.  She had to look long and hard for just the right yarn, but the result is absolutely perfect and precisely what I wanted!

Those of you who have followed Raising Arrows since Emmy’s death might remember me mentioning Christina and Bundled in Prayer and how important the work of her hands and the prayers of her heart had been to me.  But, I wanted to be sure and introduce the rest of you to her!

Christina doesn’t just create afghans either.  She makes hats and shawls and many other items. (hint, hint…Christmas is right around the corner!) And all proceeds go to charitable causes!

I’m adding Bundled in Prayer to my Grieving Mother page as a resource as well.  Each afghan she makes is prayed over and lovingly crafted.  Something like this is such a blessing to receive when your heart is aching and your arms are empty.

Thank you, Christina.

Don't miss a moment of Raising Arrows:

  1. Christina made my son a beautiful blanket just over two years ago… he was then our foster son, and we wanted a special blanket for him. About a year ago, we were able to adopt our sweet boy!

The blanket we received where dark blue, browns, and tans, absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend Bundled in Prayer!

  2. Someone did something similar for my sister and I each when we lost our parents in 2006. A prayer group made us each an afghan and a family friend made us each a quilt from their tee-shirts. They are very, very precious to us and I would imagine that they would be a wonderful memorial gift for others as well. Thank you for sharing the link.

  3. Tears are streaming down my cheeks. Thanks for posting this. I have been crocheting like a maniac these past few weeks. Just this morning I sent off 3 afghans, 5 hats, 3 shawl/wraps and one poncho! I am feeling a little exhausted and have several projects still needing my prayerful attention. This post just buoyed me up and gave me the encouragement I need to continue working joyfully!

I was able to donate over $80 this month to Blessed Arrows and Gleaning the Harvest from the profits from these projects. THAT makes my heart glad!!!!

May I share Garin’s picture on my Bundled in Prayer facebook page?

  4. A dear friend of mine’s husband was in the hospital for fifteen months, struggling for his life. Loved ones made her a prayer shawl. The wrapped herself in it and prayed by her husband’s side daily. He passed away at the end of fifteen months. She wrapped herself in the prayer shawl and cried out to God for help in her distress.

It was such a special gift.

She gave it to me a bit over a month ago at my baptism. I bawled because I knew how special it was/is. She said it just belonged with me.

I know use it on tough days and remember how faithful our God is. And how wonderful His saints can be to one another.

  5. Well,I’ve never commented here before but felt a desire to now.I wish I had known about this ministry a couple of years ago when we lost our baby boy due to a cord accident.I have read a lot of your posts for grieving mothers and large families(we have 8 here, one with Jesus). You have been a tremendous help and blessing and I was even inspired to return to cloth diapering. I really appreciated your post about grieving on purpose. I now take time occasionally to grieve for our little guy we won’t know until the trumpet sounds. Can’t wait.Interestingly enough my maiden name is Roberts.Sorry this was so long. Thanks again and God bless.Your baby Garin is sweet. I was a big newborn too 11 lbs.1.5 oz.
