Does Your Homeschool Feel a Bit Off Track?

It’s the end of the school year. Your mind is a jumbled mess of finishing textbooks, squeezing in last minute field trips, typing up portfolios, and pouring over curriculum catalogs for next year.

And you are discouraged.

The dreams and inspiration you gained at last year’s homeschool conference has long-since fizzled and you find yourself approaching this round of homeschool conferences with something akin to cynicism.  You never seem to implement all those great ideas anyway…why bother?  What you really want to do right now is throw a pity party…but you don’t have the time for one.  There’s too much to do, so you just keep plodding along…secretly wondering if there is a better way and seriously scared about what next year will hold.

Homeschooling doesn’t have to be like this!

Now is the time to take charge of your homeschool and begin homeschooling with purpose!

This is a great time to get started! The old year is winding down and you are able to judge with clarity what worked, what didn’t, what needs to be polished and what needs to be revamped entirely.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be doing a series on Homeschooling with Purpose. However, this series won’t be your usual how-to homeschool series.  I want to dig deeper…below the surface of inspirational ideas that eventually fizzle and blasts of information that leave you reeling.  I want to give you the stick-to-your-ribs stuff. The stuff that will keep you going when you are weary.  The stuff that will remind you WHY you do this.  The stuff that will give you JOY and PURPOSE and PEACE!

So, join me as we look at:

A Purposeful You

A Purposeful Home

A Purposeful Day

Purposeful Children

A Purposeful Worldview

**********

…for I know Whom I have believed

and am persuaded

that He is able to keep

what I have committed to Him

until that Day.

  1. Amy, I’m so excited for your new series. It comes at a great time for me. I’m just getting into the homeschooling life as both my girls enter Kindergarten this summer. I know we’ll be struggling to find what “works” for us, but encouraging posts from homeschoolers like you are definitely an inspiration!

  2. I am so excited about this upcoming series of posts. I think you are correct, we need to go beyond the inspirational stuff, the great but basically icing on the cake ideas, and get to the foundation that will see us through even the most difficult times of homeschooling.

  3. Amy!! The other day when you posted about this it was like an answer from God for me. I had been crying, really crying, for 2 days about putting my son back in public school. I was failing him! This is our first year and we wrap up in June. I have a 4 year old and 20 month old who add to the challenges of my hs day. I was feeling completely alone until I started seeing posts that others were having struggles as well. I am soooo looking forward to this series and thanking God he put this on your heart!! :)

  4. As I come to the end of my 8th year homeschooling, I truly believe encouragement from other moms is the best resource! Looking forward to your series!!!

  5. Sounds like a good series. :) We homeschool year round there are times when I just want to quit and have to remind myself WHY I am homeschooling.

  6. I am SO looking forward to this! This year is our first year homeschooling (kindergarten), and it has been a struggle. We moved in October from PA to KS, to my in-laws’ home, I am expecting #3 (so morning sickness/energy was an issue), and now we are ALL getting ready to sell/move again. We are considering enrolling her for first grade, but I really am not at peace with that. I am just now getting connected with homeschooling families in our area, so I feel that next year would be completely different in the area of support.
Can’t wait to see these posts!

  7. Oh goodness! Thank you for this! I am drowning over here, definitely trying to get together a pity party, but too discouraged even for that. So I am excited for this to say the least!

  8. We finished our year at the end of March. I must admit that next week was nice to be able to do things that where neglected while schooling. We go have a math refresher we are doing this summer and my husband is teaching them a Civics class.
Support is something I am still searching for. Not many people we know homeschool and the ones we do know live over a hour away. Overall I would say this year was a success. We accomplished all I wanted and did very well, yet there are issues we need to work on for next year. A infant and a 2 year old this year made for a challenge to make the time for the others. It is a good thing the oldest two are very much self learners.
I love to read what has worked for others and glean ideas to help our family.

  9. Thank you! Perfect timing for me too. I had our 4th child in February and was sick almost the entire pregnancy. I feel like I’ll never catch up with all that was put on hold this past year, not just school. Homeschooling is very important to me. I don’t want to have to give it up!

  10. Amy, I haven’t posted before, but have read for awhile. I’m excited to see you posting on these topics and can’t wait to see what you have to say! I’ve been feeling burned out on homeschooling this year due to a move and a new baby. I’m looking forward to some encouragement!

  11. SO excited about this! :D I am generally never overwhelmed, but with making the decision to write our all my own lesson plans and formulate my own curriculum this year….lol….I’m feeling the pinch! :D I need some good encouragement, and you are always great at that! Thank you! :) –S

  12. What a blessing this is going to be. Great timing too since we have had quite a variety of challenges in our family for the last few months. A breathe of fresh air to inspire is just what I need.
