Last year I started offering our curriculum for the year here on Raising Arrows (posted on the Homeschooling page). It was fun to go back to last year’s post and see how far we’ve come!
The children I consider “Littles” are going into 1st and 2nd grades. This is a bit of a bittersweet year for me as well considering this would have been the year Emily would have entered Kindergarten.
I also have a 3 year old and soon to be 2 year old with a baby on the way, but I don’t actively teach preschool, so they typically play nearby.
In the younger years, I only teach Math and Phonics. My goal is to get them reading fluently and understanding basic math concepts.
But our day always starts out with Bible.
We are still working through Hurlbut’s Story of the Bible, but this year we’ve also added Proverbs People.
We are really enjoying it!
For Math, we are continuing with Horizons for both children.
This curriculum has worked well for all my children this age, so why reinvent the wheel?
And for Phonics, we are moving along in Phonics Museum from Veritas Press.
My almost 8 year old is reading quite well and my 6 year old is sounding out 3 letter words and has read his very first book! (I’m planning to do a full review of this curriculum this coming week.)
We are also reading through the Little House on the Prairie set. We are just about to finish Farmer Boy and I must say I will be sad to see it end. It has been my favorite one so far! You can see how we modify The Prairie Primer for our littles and also the lapbooking we are doing with the Little House on the Prairie Binder Builder from A Journey Through Learning.
Additionally, our almost 8 year old will begin piano lessons this year. She is super excited about following in her older siblings’ footsteps.
And don’t forget, I have a Homeschooling Littles Pinterest Board as well as a general Homeschooling Board and many others!

Just found you via the blog hop! I’m starting homeschooling my kindergarten daughter this year and am curious about the Proverbs people book. She is 5.5 right now–do you think she is too young for it–should we wait till 1st grade or could we potentially still use it at this age? Just curious since you have taught so many kindergardeners already. Thanks for sharing and for your advice!

They are very easy questions, so I definitely think she could handle it. And the stories at the end of each chapter are geared toward younger kids.

Thank you for all these resources!

Oh my gosh! Just stumbled onto this post. THANK YOU for sharing which Bible stories book you use! My children are very young and we are a newly Christian family, so I’ve been wanting to find a simple- but NOT “dumbed-down” cartoony- Bible or collection of Bible stories to read to them every day. Every one I keep coming across (except this one!) is like a comic book or like a super-simple picture book with uninteresting pictures. I LOVE this one you suggest! I will definitely be getting it soon!
