Yesterday, when I mentioned I didn’t like beenie weenies and later told someone I didn’t really like ketchup, I realized it might be kind of humorous to all of you to hear a bit more about my food dislikes. Just keeping it real here. Kind of like this photo…
Why don’t I like beenie weenies? Well, it’s because I don’t like beans. At all. Even green beans. Only in the last year have I learned to eat chili and that’s only because I load it with corn chips to kill the mushiness of the beans. Yes, beans are mushy and mushiness drives me nuts. It’s that whole sensory processing thing.
So, on the mushiness thread, I don’t like:
mushrooms, jello, mashed potatoes (although I will eat a small amount of REAL mashed potatoes, but hold the gravy, please!), cheesecake, and grits.
I have also NEVER eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
It doesn’t even sound good. Why in the world would you put that combination together? One or the other on bread. Not both!
I also don’t eat Oreos or chocolate cake. They just don’t taste right to me. (How in the world did I end up 50 pounds overweight?!)
And remember, I said I don’t really like ketchup? Well, I’ll eat it on a hamburger, but I have never, ever dipped my fries in it. Fries get salt. That is all.
And horror of horrors…I don’t like pumpkin pie. In fact, as a kid Thanksgiving was a dreaded meal for me. I didn’t like turkey or mashed potatoes or pumpkin pie. I would spend the whole day eating rolls. (Aha, that might be how I ended up 50 pounds overweight!)
Now, before you think you could never invite me over for dinner because I’m soooo picky, let me just say I don’t make a big deal about it. Few people actually know I don’t like certain things because I just deal with it. In fact, the reason I now eat chili is because I was in another person’s home and I was offered a meal before I headed back to my own house. I gladly accepted and sat down to chili with their family. They ate it with corn chips, cheese, and sour cream, so I tried it and realized with the crunch and the added flavors I could handle it. Even if I hadn’t liked it, I would have politely taken the food and eaten around the beans. Dislikes are never an excuse for rudeness.
So, now you know a little something about me and foods I don’t like. What foods are on your list?
