I kept saying one day I would revamp my Master Grocery List because a lot has changed since I first wrote it out. In fact, a lot has changed since I first shared Once a Month Shopping with you here on Raising Arrows. But, I just couldn’t seem to find the time and every month, I would continue to print out my old master list and make do.
Well, I finally found the time this past week to actually sit down and rework the entire thing and while I was doing that, I decided to rework the series and make my new master list available to all of you in a more user-friendly format!
Once a Month Master Grocery List
This list is still highly personalized to our family (with a few additions like hamburger even though we typically have buffalo or a side of beef in the freezer), but my hope is that you will get a good idea as to how this works so you can eventually create your own (that’s how I started!). This list was created in a simple Word document, so not a big deal for you to replicate and personalize for your own family.
Print it out, take it for a test drive, then rework it for you!

Thank you for sharing!!! Just curious, do you grocery shop ONLY once a month? If so, how do you get by with just one trip? Also, do you live on a tight grocery budget? I am trying really hard to get ours down to $150-$200 per month for a family of 3.

Shannon,
In the series I talk about how we still go to the grocery store every week to week and a half to get milk and fresh produce. We are not on an extremely tight grocery budget currently, but we have been and this actually helps tremendously! I do keep an eye on coupons to see if I can get anything (like cream cheese) free and really cheap to help supplement, but doing the bulk of my grocery shopping 1x per month keeps me from endlessly going to the store and over-buying each and every time. My husband typically does the weekly quick shops. 😉

Thank you for the response! I am going to try the once a month trip (or perhaps every two weeks) and then leave the little shopping trips to hubby! Thanks!
Amy says
You are so welcome!

Yay! Great post/series. I have not seen this on your site before as I am sort of a new follower. I’m off to bed to dream about how this could work for us. (I’m thinking some IKEA cubbies may be in order.) I could hear a proverbial “ding-ding-ding” go off in my head when I saw this was about Once a Month Shopping because my fourth is 6 months old and I just added the second oldest into our homeschool routine. I used to grocery shop every Friday and here it is Sunday but I still haven’t shopped from the PREVIOUS Friday. Psh. Something has gotta change around here. Thanks!

Sweet dreams! 😉

I think you like maple syrup.. it’s on there twice lol. I get a lot of produce/all oil (coconut and olive oil ONLY)/flour and misc items thru Azure Standard or Tropical Traditions. Then I get beef/chicken/pork/eggs/milk/butter from a local farmer (who has a delivery once a week). Which helps to not have to get too much from a big box store.
Being able to buy Azure/Tropical Trad has saved us a lot of money. Of course we are a small family. (just 4 of us, and we’re done)
Amy says
We also use Azure and a local bulk food market, but I keep those things on the list because they are part of my shopping. Thanks for letting me know about the maple syrup! I rearranged the list, so I probably left it in one spot and added it to another! lol
Amy says
HA! Or I just put it twice in the same spot! 😉
Nicole says
Just curious…what do cook with coconut oil? I have just never used it.
Nicole 🙂
Amy says
We use it to make deodorant and any time we want a richer flavor to our baked goods. You use it just like you would any other oil, but you can also use it for hand lotion, diaper cream, etc. Great stuff!

Thanks for sharing this! I have been wanting to move to once a month shopping, but have not tried it yet.

This is one of the nicest master grocery lists I have seen, and I’ve checked out a lot of them. I would like to work toward more once a month grocery shopping–currently I am doing the once a week thing. 🙁
Amy says
I have done the once-a-week thing off and on throughout the years (during certain seasons), but it is never has wonderful as doing a OAMS. It really is a huge help!
Loretta Rizzo says
Love this form! I miss OAMC and am seriously considering going back to it!!! I’m wondering if you have a blog post or would do one on how much of what your family uses; ex. how much ground beef you purchase every month, how much cheese, how much rice, flour etc. I’d also love to see how you break up each amount in to meals. This is a big area for us as we are always trying to lessen our outgoing expense but want to provide the healthiest, heartiest meals possible.
Amy says
I can try to do that with a link to our list w/ our numbers on it. Give me a while to see how this month goes w/ the latest shopping trip. 😉

Thanks! I haven’t read the series until now but I like it! I am going to put my brain in gear and get it done! I used to shop once a month and do a meals list for that month but something happened and I don’t do it anymore. I miss it now! Thanks for the reminder.
Rebecca says
I used to do this and need to start doing it again. Thanks for linking up Amy – you always have great resources for Moms.
shayla says
how much do you usually spend a month getting a months supplies??
Amy says
Groceries have gone up a lot since I wrote that post. It also depends on where you live. For us, groceries/paper goods/incidentals run about $1000 a month.
