For vacation this year, we decided to head to Cheyenne, Wyoming and take in some of the history and nature there. My son and I researched hotels and came across a Days Inn that offered exactly what we were looking for…
A reasonably priced Family Suite!
So many we had researched only offered a connecting room and it was always double the price of a single room. So, if one room was $90, putting up my entire family was going to end up costing $180. That is NOT reasonable in my budget-minded opinion.
However, this Days Inn Suite boasted 2 sets of bunk beds, a hideaway couch, a King bed and room to move all for less than $130. Couple that with a military discount or other discount and you have a super deal!
The suite consisted of one HUGE room with a King bed, a couch that makes into a bed, 2 chairs, a dresser, TV, and refrigerator and another bedroom area attached with 2 sets of bunks, a dresser and a TV. (There was another suite that we considered that was set up with 2 Queen beds and 1 set of bunks, but the idea of 2 sets of bunk beds won out.)
The oldest 4 slept in the extra bedroom and the two younger children slept in the main room with us. It was no trouble finding a place for the playpen where Garin sleeps and Micah slept on the pull out couch like a king!
A wonderful hot breakfast was included in the price of the room (which saves a ton of money, but you should have seen their faces when we hit the dining room!) There was a nice pool, laundry facility, and great customer service.
And, we had the cutest bell hop ever!
The only 2 things I would have changed is adding another bathroom to the suite (there was only 1, but thankfully, there were two sinks – one in the bathroom and one in the main room) and more washers and dryers in the laundry area. We had to do laundry and ended up doing it all night long one night because the railroad workers who were staying there had taken up the one washer and one dryer available during the daytime hours.
And for those of you with pets, the hotel was pet friendly. We saw a lot of dogs while we there.
We were so impressed with our stay there and will definitely continue to look for Days Inn (and hopefully more family suites) from now on.
Have you found any great hotel rooms for large families in your travels? Be sure to share about it in the comments so other readers can benefit from your insider knowledge!

This last summer was the first time traveling with 4 kids so we had to find bigger hotel rooms. We stayed in 2 Holiday Inns that were very nice (one was very pricey but included a waterpark so that was our activity, which the kids loved- most of our vacation activities are free or very inexpensive nature stuff). My husband and I loved having 2 bedrooms instead of just one room. We were able to stay up later than the kids, which was so nice. We also stayed in 2 local mom and pop motels that worked wondefully and were very well priced. It took some extra research to find what would work for us and we planned well ahead of time (the mom and pops each only had 1 room that would fit us), but we were very pleased with not having to get 2 rooms. I agree that hotels with breakfasts are wonderful- 2 of ours did (the others we had cereal in the room).

What an awesome deal and accomodations! Honestly, I didn’t even know hotels had bunk beds!
We don’t stay in hotels very often, unless it’s a short trip or if staying with family is not an option. For vacation, we like to use a great website called Vacation Rental By Owner (vrbo.com). We usually rent a house with a completely stocked kitchen (so we can cook our own meals!), washer dryer, etc. If where you’re going has an “off-season,” then you can get really good deals during that season. Also, we usually just ignore the price listed for the rental and ask them if they would be willing to let us rent their place for X-amount of time for X-amount of dollars. Sometimes they laugh at our offer, but we just find someone who’s willing to take it – or bargain – and doesn’t want their rental property sitting empty! It’s a fantastic website – you can view pictures of the properties and see what would accommodate your family, and they have listings for around the world.

A few years back we stayed at a Days Inn Suite which had a bedroom with 2 queens, a kitchenette, a full size pull down bed in the “living room”, and a pull out couch for a mere $60 (with coupon) in Orlando, Fl. THE best room we’ve ever had!

Amy – great deal! We have enjoyed Spring Hill Suites…for $119 we got two Queen beds and a double sleeper sofa…along with separate shower and toilet areas and a closet big enough to dress in. It also has a microwave, fridge and indoor pool. A full breakfast is included which is a great deal for us. We pack snacks for a lite lunch and then wind up only paying for dinner.
We are in one in Denver now and will be staying in one in Cheyenne later this week.
I hope you had a great time!

That’s what we did for meals too. In fact, the breakfast was so hearty, no one was really hungry until later in the day anyway. Enjoy your trip!

Say what?! Lol! I live in Cheyenne and had no idea that the Days Inn was hiding such awesomeness! The local AFB has great two-bedroom suites and unheard of rates for military, but I will store the info about the DI in my brain for later reference! Hope you had a great time in Cheyenne–and that you weren’t caught in the early October snow storm! Summer is a much more enjoyable time to visit! And July for Frontier Days if your’re the rodeo type! Wish I could have helped with Cheyenne tips! 😉

We really want to visit my sister in VA but haven’t known where to begin to look at bugeting for the trip. Thanks for a place to start!

So good to hear that they are working out situations for larger families. Wish they had when my kiddos were still at home. I was raised in Cheyenne. It isn’t what it was when I was growing up but there is so much history surrounding it. I live just an hour away in Laramie now. Fantastic smaller town.
Hope you get to visit again soon.

We’ve stayed at Staybridge Inn and Suites several times while visiting family and have been impressed. While it’s probably not the cheapest place you can stay, they offer 1, 2, and 3 bedroom suites with living room (pull out sofa), full kitchen, and sufficient baths. The one where we stay is really nice and has a full hot breakfast every morning, along with snacks in the evenings. We typically stay in the 1 bedroom, with 2 kids on the pull out sofa and one in the pack-n-play. I think the total cost was $130/night. Not terrible, not the best either.

Okay, now we’re talkin’….. these are “modern” amenities! I’m so glad that some of the hotel chains are realizing that not every family travels with just two kids. This place probably felt like The Hilton after your definitely-not-equipped-with-modern-amenities place! Glad you guys had a fun vacation.

That is great to know! It is so hard to go stay anwhere and be able to afford it. Thank you so much for sharing this. Now I just need to be able to tuck it away in brain and remember it later. 🙂

We stayed in a really nice Holiday Inn Express family suite when we went to the Alamo last year. It was $90/night (military discount) for a living room w/pull out couch, 2 king beds in separate rooms & bathroom.

I would love to hear what activities you did there. My mom moved to Wheatland (about an hour from Cheyenne) and we need to plan a trip out there.

Fabulous! Thank you for this information. I will definitely be checking to see if we can find these when we travel. I feel the same way about connecting rooms!

We are headed up to Denver this weekend and I have just recently come across a website that caters to larger families. They do the research for ya. http://sixsuitcasetravel.com/ It has all the possible rooms that are available for larger families in an area. Looks good.

Thanks for sharing the website we are a family of 8. it is really hard finding something to accommodate us and we are military and have at least one more cross county and at least 3 total more moves in hubby military career,

We didn’t have a large family, but I wanted to “ditto” your Days Inn comments. When I was a young girl we went to Florida and stayed in Kissimmee Dyas Inn and it was very family friendly (we stayed in a family suite too–but no bunk beds).

I live in Cheyenne! I hope you had a great time:)

Oh my gosh I adore you!!! LOL
We will be moving from Idaho to TN in the next few months (God-willing) and my husband and I were wondering what on earth we were going to do. We have 5 daughters that will be traveling with us. We knew that there was no way we could afford what two rooms would cost. Thank you SO much for posting this!!!! We are military as well. My husband will be thrilled when I tell him about Days Inn.
Thank you again!!
