Our kids are growing up in a fast-paced, super-connected technological society. It’s nearly impossible to avoid computer screens. Truthfully, I wouldn’t expect us to avoid technology altogether because our children will need to be familiar with computers and the digital world in order to navigate their adult lives.
HOWEVER, as we teach them to use technology, we also must teach them unplug. Yes, I said TEACH. We have to not only model a life that isn’t lived completely online, but also be willing to walk alongside them and help them navigate the treacherous road of disconnecting so they can stay connected with their real life.
When was the last time you had a deep conversation with your child? When was the last time you read a book aloud? When was the last time you looked into the eyes of your little ones? When was the last time you played a game with your family?
