The past two weeks have been full of painting and redecorating. From the interesting painter guy who belched with nearly every brush stroke to the wallpaper border in the girls’ room that about broke my back, it’s been a wild ride!
Several of the main rooms in our house are now sage green and the girls’ room is a pale lavenderish color with a horse border. Since painting forces you to move all furniture to the center of the room and remove everything from the walls, we decided to do some redecorating while we were at it. And I thought I’d share our new look with all of you!
When you walk in our front door, you’ll see these Thomas Cole prints. We saw the original oils in Stanton Hall in Natchez, Mississippi when we went there for the trip Ty’s office sent us on in honor of Emmy.
They are a series of four paintings entitled The Voyage of Life, depicting life’s journey from birth to death. They captivated Ty, so for Father’s Day this past year I bought him the prints. It took having our house painted to actually get them up on the wall!
I also took the washstand that used to hold Emmy’s picture and put it in the entryway (Emmy’s picture is now on the buffet). I really like having a place (other than the floor!) to put things that need to leave the house when we go.
In my kitchen, Ty kindly asked me to please take down my beloved baskets. Apparently, everyone (except me, that is) manages to knock them off the wall every time they walk by. So, I moved them elsewhere and came up with this arrangement:
In the living room, I put the shelf with the Willow Tree figurines over the couch:
We also moved the china cabinet into the living room because my husband has decided to use it for the space exploration memorabilia he’s collecting {although he has graciously allowed my Franciscan pottery to remain on the lower shelf–thanks hun! ;)}
Next to the china cabinet we put an arrangement of some of the photos from our vacations. They make for great conversation pieces!
We bought new curtains for the dining room and borrowed back curtains I had given a friend. {She wasn’t using them anyway and I am just that kind of friend!}
So, just as we were finally getting life back to normal after those rooms were painted and redecorated, my mom decided to come over and paint the girls’ room (a Christmas present we hadn’t cashed in yet).
You remember the Things Left Undone post? Well, the girls now have a finished room (except for curtains…sheets on the windows are in fashion these days, right?). Here’s the after pic:
Can’t show the whole room because it still needs a little cleaning tweaking!
After all of this was finished, my darling husband says, “It all looks so nice. Let’s do some more!” EEK! Not sure I’m ready for that! Oh well, guess he’s paying the chiropractor bill!

Oh it looks wonderful, I love sage. Neat idea for hanging the pictures from only trips in such a unique decorative way, think I’ll try that as well. Your home looks very inviting.
Glad you are feeling better and the couch has released you 🙂

Amy, I wish you were on facebook so you could see my house before and after pics – (there are LOTS of them, so I didn’t blog them). We’ve turned our house upsidedown – inside AND out over the last two years. It’s a great feeling when it’s done…then you say, “Yep, time to do more!”

I did see some of the redecorating of the basement, but not the pretty stuff. 🙁 No facebook for now…lots of reasons, but maybe someday.

I do this every time I’m pregnant. Thank goodness for that whole nesting thing or we’d probably never re-do anything! We have several projects going on right now. I’ll probably blog about them when we finish school.

I can see that your nesting bug is in full bloom~
How fun!
I love the green color on the walls and your display of Willow Tree figures!
I have a small collection of them. Every year our church raffles off a Willow Tree Nativity Set…I’m still praying to win!!!!!:{
Changing up things around the house can really feel good,giving a new energy to a space! Making ones old house fresh and new again!
Warmest Blessings,
Georgiann
